Imagine being pursued by a twisted grin. Sharp, paralyzing jaws and pulsating grim eyes. Your feet feels as though they are attached to cement. As the monster from the dark takes a chomp out of you; wake up! Sweaty and scared. A nightmare, a terrifying dream. Or how about a dream that you can control? Such as a lucid dream. That freighting monster that was chasing you was actually an adorable kitten. Then there are your future dreams. Goals in life that you wish to accomplish, such as an aspiring writer, a colorful artist or even a rockin’ musician! And finally, day dreams. Dreams that happen when you’re awake. This tends to happen in a boring English class.
I had the most awful nightmare a few weeks ago, one of the worst. My friends and I were sitting in a dim room on fake leather couches. Between this couches was a simple white table and to the side of us, was a giant screen, maybe half the a size of something you’d see in a movie theatre. After we had gotten comfortable, a deep voice filled the room. A voice of dark evil and as it spoke, the screen flickered. It showed terrible images of stick figures brutally killing other stick figures. The voice explained that this is what he had to do to each other. In a panic, we frantically looked for a way out and that simple white table had weapons on it. We stared in each other in shock, I woke up. Disgusted with myself, terrified, and very sad. I swore to myself that I would try to wake up from something like that as soon as I noticed it wasn’t going to be a pleasant dream, then try again for a good dream.
I have many dreams, but most don’t happen while I sleep. These dreams are my future goals. Some are unrealistic, but I heard it’s healthy to dream of them anyways. I’ve dreamed about being a musician, an artist and even a author. It’s not that they’re aren’t possible, they’re just unrealistic. Not like working under a health care system or helping fight forest fires, those are realistic and within reach. I would also love to have a family one day. Wake up to a beautiful wife on my shoulder and have two screaming kids wanting breakfast every morning.
I’ve learned to control my dreams. These are called lucid dreams. There is some “training” that needs to be done to be able to lucid dream and I’ll let you in on how it is done. First, every time you wake up from a dream, write about it the moment you wake up, while it’s fresh in your mind. Keep doing this until you gained control over your sleeping conscious. I did this without noticing. I would tell people what I had dreamed about, most of the time texting them about it, then one day, I was able to control a situation in my dream that was totally ridiculous. Usually when I want out of the situation I tell myself to sprout wings and fly off to a distant land, and it works! Lucid dreams can also allow you to smell certain scents, normal everyday smells or hear a specific sound - under your control of course. Learn this, it’s definitely worth it.
As you can clearly see, there are a multitude of dreams and ways to have those dreams. Given the information above, dreams are clearly highly complex and can have a variety of emotions behind them. Lucid dreams you have control, nightmares leave you sweaty and in shock and day dreams occur while your awake. Dreaming of what will become of your future and having a better insight in life.

Heats of Hell and High Waters
Other than the fact I have to write about it now, this summer was pretty idealistic in terms of not having to worry about responsibilities for my last possible year of doing what I want, in this case, sitting on my ass doing just about nothing productive.
First of all, there was a camping trip me and my family went on. Besides the fact my family was there, it was a good trip. On the way there we saw an accident involving a motorcycle sliding off the road. It was pretty awesome. When we first got there, the first thing I did was help my girlfriend set up our tent. The fact I was allowed to share a tent with her probably surprised me the most, and to me bringing her on this trip was my family’s way of celebrating how she graduated from high school less then a week before. After this it was mostly just eating and sitting around ‘til we went to bed. The next day after spending several hours getting ready, we all went to Hell’s Gate to see the sights and taste their, at least Canadian renowned, flavours of fudge. I believe Chantal (my friend) and I got the mocha-flavoured fudge. She also got me the ring that now hangs around my neck (if your wondering why she decided to get it, my guess is she wanted to be nice and get me something). Once we finished this and did the gold panning that they have there for a short while, we went back to the Kumsheen campsite (this is where we were staying at, it’s a very nice place) where we once again sat around just eating and playing card games ‘til we went to bed. For our 3rd and final day at the site, we went on Kumsheen’s famous rafting trip, where one of the employees takes up to 10 people on one of their specially made rafts to go off and do the rapids they have. It was fun but you needed to hold on to the rope pretty tightly to not fall off, and it goes in all the way to the Fraser River . The next day we went home. I know, not all that exciting.
Nothing all that interesting happened again ‘til my birthday, where Chantal got to sleep over. We spent the day playing video games, watching movies and drinking. Everything else about that night stays quiet. The rest of the summer was just visits from Chantal, miserable attempts at job hunting and play my Xbox 360, mostly just the 360. In case you were for some reason wondering what I played on the 360, it was mostly just Halo Reach.
Ultimately the point I’m trying to make here is that as boring as this summer sounds, I did things I wanted to do. It was a lazy summer and unfortunately probably one of the last ones I’ll get to have.
